CSA Goodness: Produce and Meat

Yesterday’s Red Fire Farm CSA distribution went very well.  We had Ona, Red Fire Farm’s Chef doing a cooking demonstration with produce in this week’s share.

Ona is awesome. She made radicchio slaw.

We got lots of lovely items this week. Veggie share:  summer squash, zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes (!), beet greens (with little beets still attached), Ailsa sweet onions, scallions, lettuce, radicchio, carrots, basil and cilantro.  Fruit share: raspberries and blueberries.

This week's Red Fire Farm veggie, fruit and egg share.

We also picked up our meat share from Stillmans Farm Meat CSA today from the Jamaica Plain farmers market location (we usually pick up in brookline, but we had to change our pickup time).  Our quarter share gave us: a big smoked ham steak, country style ribs, lamb shoulder chops, and chicken legs (no beef until fall).  We also bought some bacon and sweet italian sausage from Stillmans…. my mouth waters as I write.

Also, we did some blueberry picking today, and tomorrow we will be going to a hike out at Red Fire Farm’s new farm land in Montague.  On our way back we hope to stop at Upinngil Farm to pick up some flour and grain.  We will keep you updated on these fun events as the weekend and early week unfolds.
